Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many bets will I receive as a DGR member?

A: I have no pre-determined rules about how many bets I am going to have, it all depends on how I perceive the racing (and the value) on the specific day in question. Sometimes I will have no bet and sometimes it may be as many as 7 or 8. The average tends to be 3 or 4 per day.

Q: What time will I receive the email with your recommended bets?

A: I will always try to have the bets emailed before 10.00am each day. Times will vary but in general, they are sent in the early hours of the morning the night before.

Q: How can I trust your results?

A: Arguably the most important question of all! I proof ALL of my recommended bets (in advance) to the UKs No1 Racing Information provider www.racing-index.com. I suggest you NEVER contemplate paying for information from any Tipping or Advisory service who do not proof their selections. I also deduct the maximum 5% commission off all winning bets (when displaying my results) in order for you to see the guaranteed minimum figures that would be achieved when following my bets.

Q: Should I take a price?

A: NO - absolutely not! The introduction of the Betfair starting price (BSP) has been a godsend as regards protection of prices. If we started alerting the layers to early morning market moves we would be shooting ourselves in the foot. I now place ALL of my bets to BSP and whilst there may be times when I could have traded at better odds, I am generally very happy to operate my figures on that basis and I recommend all members use BSP as the bets can be placed at any time.

Q: What starting bank do you recommend?

A: 1000 Points but PLEASE make sure the amount you set aside for gambling is an amount you can afford to lose. Better to start small and increase your point value than the other way around!

Q: Do you have a NO BET rule?

A: Not officially. I personally do not like backing odds on and I recommend that if there is no value in a bet you should always be prepared to walk away. However, from an accountability perspective I stand by all of my recommended bets and they will therefore count in my figures regardless of price. I recommend you use BSP (Betfair Starting Price) and you are therefore not in control of the price when placing your bet.

Q: Do you have a minimum & maximum bet?

A: Yes, my regular stake is 10 points win or 10 points each way and my maximum bet is 20 points win. I will sometimes halve my bet if I am backing more than one horse in a race.

Q: What method do you use for selecting your bets?

A: If I told you I would have to kill you!! Seriously, I am not someone who depends on any ONE factor such as speed figures or ratings. I take ALL factors into consideration with my betting and I always try to balance value against probability.

Q: Do you get tips from other sources?

A: No. I make my own decisions when it comes to putting my money down because most people with inside information are far too blinkered. They say Owners & Trainers make the worst tipsters and I think if you threw Jockeys into the mix, you would have the most accurate statement in racing!

Q: Can you guarantee I will make a profit?

A: I wish I could, but Im afraid the honest answer is NO. Gambling will always involve periods of winning and losing and whilst I may have great confidence in my ability to succeed as a gambler, I am certainly not immune to losing. To give you a football analogy: Do I think Man Utd will beat Burnley? YES - can I guarantee they will?......... NO.

Q: Can I cancel my membership at anytime?

A: Of course you can. You will continue to receive the bets up until the date your membership period expires. I also offer a 14 day money back guarantee to allow new members the opportunity to sample the service. If you decide to cancel your membership within this period, you can have your money back - no questions asked. You are not entitled to money back AFTER the initial 14 day period has elapsed.

Q: Why not just offer a free trial period instead of a money back offer?

A: Most genuine gamblers have a gentlemans code which is the envy of the sporting world. Unfortunately, there are just too many stealers and time wasters with a computer these days who are happy to create e-mail address after e-mail address just so they can receive my service for free. I need to eliminate these freeloaders (who are not really interested in serious gambling anyway) and the only way to do that is by receiving their details through paypal. Paypal only permit one email address per account holder and the money back system simply fast tracks to the more genuine member and prevents continuous abuse of a trial facility.

Q: You stipulate a limited membership, how many will you allow?

A: I do not feel comfortable answering that question for two reasons. Firstly, because I think it is a private matter and secondly, because I will keep the level monitored and will alter it only if I feel our market is being affected.

Q: How long have you been gambling?

A: Having celebrated my 44th birthday in 2009, I suppose the legal answer would be 26 years! However, I did not turn into a serious punter until 1996.

Q: Why operate a tipping site if you make money gambling?

A: Quite simply because I love everything about horse racing and I literally eat, breathe & sleep it. I get more of a buzz from picking a winner than anything else and I view professional gambling as an art form. I genuinely enjoy sharing my gambling life with the members and I am pleased to say, in most instances, the feeling is mutual!

Q: Do you prefer Flat or National Hunt racing?

A: From a gambling perspective I have no preference, From a personal enjoyment perspective, it is without hesitation National Hunt. Give me Cheltenham & Aintree over Epsom & York any day!

Q: How long have you owned horses?

A: Ownership has been in my family since I was a young boy but I had to earn my own money before becoming an owner myself. I had very small shares (in syndicates etc) from as early as 1988 but I did not get my own colours until 2002.

Q: What Trainers have you had horses with?

A: Taking into consideration syndicates and partnerships: Henrietta Knight, Nicky Richards, Kevin Morgan, Paul Blockley, Rod Marvin, Mel Brittain, Owen Brennan, Tony Newcombe, Jonjo Oneill & Mick Quinn.

Q: Do you have multiple bets such as doubles, trebles, yankees etc...?

A: Absolutely, I love having a yankee or heinz on a Saturday afternoon, after all, I am a gambler! However, I keep these bets as fun bets only as they should never form part of a gamblers day to day figures.

Q: What has been your best winning period?

A: 2006 was a terrific year for me, as was 2002. Both were in the region of 800 points profit.

Q: And your worst period?

A: From the high of 2006 to the low of 2007! A truly awful year in which I lost over 300 points.

Q: If you could offer one piece of advice ONLY about gambling, what would it be?

A: Mmmm.... Do not get in the boxing ring unless you are prepared to be on the receiving end of a bloody good left hook!.......PS: I have been on the canvas a few times but I have never lost the fight!

There are a million and one questions I have been asked over the years and it would be impossible to list them all. I have however, listed many of the relevant questions pertaining to DGR membership, which will hopefully clear up any uncertainty and may also be a useful tool for you to refer back to. If you still find there is something you are unsure about, please do not hesitate to drop me a line.
